Several news outlets are reporting that the U.S. Supreme Court has sided with Arizona over a tough immigration law that cracks down on undocumented workers and their employers.
The 5-3 split decision would allow Arizona to require employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check the immigration status of workers and also gives the state the authority to take away the business license of companies who knowingly hire undocumented workers.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Obama administration opposed the law. The Supreme Court is also expected to take up another one of Arizona’s controversial immigration laws, SB 1070, sometime in the near future.
