In light of his scheduled trip to Mexico, President Barack Obama met with leaders of Latino groups on Monday.
Obama met with leaders from the National Council of La Raza, theNational Hispanic Council on Aging, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the NDN in addition to several other groups. In the meeting, the President emphasized that things in the Northern Hemisphere have gotten better and will continue to do so with the growth of the middle class, the reduction of poverty and inequality in a large part of the region and with countries coming up with a more active global presence.
In Mexico, Obama will meet with Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto. The 3 day trip is meant to focus on border security, promoting trade and stimulating the economies and immigration.
Obama’s meeting with President Peña Nieto “will allow us to revive a relationship that is more balanced and diversified, much broader and deeper,” said Sergio Alcocer, Deputy Foreign Secretary for North American Affairs.
