Bipartisan House Group Announces a Deal on Immigration Legislation

On Thursday a bipartisan group of House members declared a deal on immigration legislation.

“We have an agreement in principle. We’re now going to work on finishing up the drafting of the bill,” said Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, a leader of the group.

This announcement came after several months of meeting for the eight members of the group.

The agreed House immigration legislation shares common goals with the Senate plan. There is a continued focus on enhancing border security, an increased emphasis on workplace enforcement, new ways to allow workers to enter the U.S. legally and creating a path for millions to attain citizenship.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., another member of the group, said over Twitter: “Important breakthrough, some details still to be worked out, but very pleased things are moving forward.”
