The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) recently announced that the CEO and majority owner of Vme TV, Eligio Cedeño will receive the prestigious Businessman of the Year Award and will be honored during USHCC’s 2014 National Convention on September 23 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
USHCC honors executives who are both pioneers in their fields and exemplary business leaders that advance the social and economic prosperity of their businesses and communities through innovation and dedication. President & CEO of USHCC, Javier Palomarez said, “during his tenure at Vme TV, Eligio has devoted his time, resources, and passion toward educating and inspiring young children and families with quality television programming. Driven by his personal journey, Eligio recognizes the cultural challenges faced by many, and has leveraged the power of media to help break down barriers for America’s Spanish speaking viewers.”
As the country’s largest minority owned and Spanish-language network, Vme TV has pioneered efforts to deliver engaging and culturally relevant educational programing to its diverse viewership. Vme TV’s commitment to quality Spanish-language content is in line with Cedeño’s experience as a recent immigrant from Venezuela who recognized a considerable deficit in culturally competent and sensitive programing and thus sought to find a way to bridge that cultural gap in the media. Today, the network currently reaches over 70 million households in the United States with its substantive and family friendly content.
Cedeño acknowledged that this is a tremendous honor both for him and the network and said, “We at Vme TV will continue to drive the narrative that Hispanic Americans play a pivotal role in the success of this country and should have access to media content that reflects who we truly are as a community.”
