Keeping with tradition, Houston-area AT&T employees joined the Greater East End Management District and Keep Houston Beautiful to kick off the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) 2015 National Convention with their volunteer day of service. Friday morning in Houston was spent helping to beautify and landscape a popular trail, punctuated by remarks from the host and partnering organizations.
“The USHCC applauds companies that support the local communities where they live and work. In that spirit, we’re delighted to volunteer in Houston alongside AT&T, the Greater East End Management District and Keep Houston Beautiful,” said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. “Hispanic businesses are at the forefront of the green economy, with overwhelming support for policies that protect our environment. Our giving of ourselves in service to others demonstrates our commitment to volunteerism that uplifts communities and preserves the natural world.”
Led by AT&T’s HACEMOS Hispanic and Latino employee resource group, the event drew local officials and community leaders to work in the park, an important hub in Houston’s East End neighborhood. Texas State Senator Sylvia Garcia joined the group in the morning’s service, highlighting the corporate and local commitment to build stronger community environments.
“I am honored to have been a part of this event and to see so many passionate individuals come together to beautify Houston. AT&T along with Keep Houston Beautiful, the Greater East End Management District and the USHCC’s commitment to community was truly apparent today, and we appreciate AT&T’s effort through this fantastic volunteer project,” Sen. Garcia said.
The Houston event adds to an already impressive 5.6 million hours of community outreach activities for AT&T in 2014 alone.
