As we all experience a roller coaster of emotions because of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, college students may be experiencing a bit more.
Today, thousands are realizing their summer internships are no longer available. They are wondering whether they will still graduate on time, and they are contemplating the impact COVID-19 will have on their careers.
In order to help these students, one of the largest companies in the country is taking matters into their own hands. Yesterday, AT&T announced that they are launching the AT&T Summer Learning Academy.
The self-paced online learning “externship” certificate program is designed to support college students who do not have an internship this summer and are looking for something to fill the void. The program is open to all college students and consists of 80 hours of virtual, on-demand 24×7 content. It will be running from June 22nd – July 20th and registration is open now through June 12th
After the announcement was made, many of the country’s Latino organizations and Latino leaders at the nation’s capital showed their support and praised AT&T’s decision. “This is VERY exciting for any student looking for a great summer “externship” learn the skills you need to set yourself apart in the world of tech!” tweeted Alejandro Roark, the executive director for the Hispanic Technology & Telecommunications Partnership.
“This is an amazing opportunity for college students who will not be able to attend their internships this summer! @ATT Summer Learning Academy” tweeted Maria Cardona, a Political Strategist and CNN Commentator. According to a statement released by AT&T, the unpaid “externship” is designed to support more than 100,000 students on the AT&T University platform and although the content is in English, it’s available to students located anywhere in the world, as long as they can access the site.
The curriculum that includes professional development and business acumen coursework. Students will have the opportunity to hear from speakers like Stedman Graham, Molly Bloom (author of Molly’s Game) and General Thomas Kolditz.
